Catherine was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 1996. Since then she has used Tai Chi and mindfulness meditation to support her immune system and deal with side-effects related to treatment. She has also followed this personal interest to become a Neuro-scientist specializing in investigating brain mechanisms underlying the effects of Tai Chi and mindfulness on aging, pain and other clinical situations. She is assistant professor at Brown University School of Medicine and Director of translational neuroscience at the Brown University. Contemplative Studies Initiative.
