Joel T. Nowak, MA, MSW is the founder of Cancer ABCs and survivor of five primary cancers including thyroid, recurrent metastatic prostate cancer, renal cancer, melanoma, appendiceal cancer as well as an autoimmune disease, ankylosing spondylitis. He sits on the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Programmatic Committee, a job he was given after serving many years as a peer scientific reviewer. In 2014 he was awarded the Harry Pinchot Award by the Prostate Cancer Research Institute. Joel Nowak has co-authored and presented a paper on cancer support group dynamics at the American Psychological Association (APA). He is also an advocate mentor for the American Association of Cancer Researchers (AACR) Scientist-Survivor Program and he serves as a Prostate Cancer Expert for the American Urologic Association (AUA).
