Dr. Ma Somsouk | CureTalks
Dr. Ma Somsouk, MD, MAS, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and is the Dean Craig Endowed Chair in Gastrointestinal Medicine. As Director of the Gastrointestinal Mucosal Biology Core, Dr. Somsouk has developed an infrastructure to examine gut mucosal samples to study the microbiome, epithelial barrier, and gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT). In addition, Dr. Somsouk has successfully completed multiple interventional clinical trials (mesalamine, bovine immunoglobulin, and fecal transplantation in the setting of HIV infection) targeting HIV associated inflammation. His research program examines the impact of HIV on gut mucosal inflammation and the epithelial barrier and their effects on the microbiome, HIV reservoir, and systemic inflammation.
